Lenoir County School Board honors Kinston High 3A champions and district student achievers

The Lenoir County Board of Education used its March 30 meeting to celebrate student and staff accomplishments across the district, lauding Kinston High School’s men’s basketball team for winning the North Carolina 3A state championship and recognizing multiple student academic and extracurricular honors.
Mr. Harvey read the names of the Kinston players, coaches and staff, presented a plaque commemorating the March 13, 2026 title and praised coach Perry Tindal. "We're really proud of you. You represent Lenoir County Public Schools," he said as the plaque was displayed.
The board also announced that Rosa (Rose) I of North Lenoir School advanced to the Gates Scholarship finalist round (one of roughly 1,500 finalists). In addition, five Lenoir County students were named to attend North Carolina Governor's School East; the board named the students and invited them to comment briefly on the experience.
Other recognitions included Milka Rojas of North Manor High School advancing to the FCCLA national semifinalist round, several students honored at the North Carolina State Science and Engineering Fair, and recipients of district staff awards. The board praised teachers and classified employees for long service and strong daily impact on students and schools.
Board members and attendees applauded each group as they were called forward; the meeting materials and remarks emphasized student achievement, staff dedication and community support for school programs.
