Lenoir County school board approves budget amendment, procurement plan, facility namings and personnel actions

At its March 30 meeting the Lenoir County Board of Education approved a budget amendment, adopted payroll and meeting calendars, approved multiple procurement and naming decisions, declared surplus items, and approved personnel recommendations after a closed session under state statute.
The Lenoir County Board of Education on March 30 approved a series of routine and administrative actions, including a budget amendment for fiscal 2025–26, a child nutrition procurement plan effective July 1, 2026, vendor selections for new school furniture, and the naming of a baseball complex after the late Coach Troy Eason.
Board members approved budget amendment number three to revise the district’s working budget for fiscal year 2025–2026 following a motion to approve; the board took the vote by show of hands and the motion passed. Mrs. Hooker presented the March 2026 financial report that accompanied the amendment.
The board also voted to adopt the proposed payroll calendar and pay-period due dates for fiscal 2026–2027 and selected Option One for next year’s board meeting dates after a roll-call-style show-of-hands vote (Option One received four votes, a majority). The board approved budget- and schedule-related motions by voice or raise of hands when recorded.
On facilities and procurement matters, the board approved the Child Nutrition procurement plan to take effect July 1, 2026, and named Brain as the preferred furniture vendor for the new E.B. Frink Middle School. The board also approved a motion to name the South Lenoir High School baseball complex in honor of the late Coach Troy Eason, recognizing his 28 years of service; family members were acknowledged in the meeting.
The board declared several long-unused items surplus — including a maintenance backhoe and athletic jerseys from Kinston High School programs — with the proceeds to return to the respective athletic departments.
The meeting included a closed session conducted under North Carolina General Statute to preserve attorney–client privilege and to consider employee personnel matters. After returning to open session the board approved the March 3, 2026 personnel recommendations and the personnel addendum by vote.
The board adjourned after completing the posted agenda.
