Yankton board adopts revised world language and art curriculum guides

Nicole Volness presented committee recommendations to revise the district's world language and art curriculum guides. On the art guide, the committee added preschool to the review cycle and proposed two future YHS CTE course outlines — photography and multimedia design — plus an art portfolio capstone. Volness said the proposed changes align with South Dakota fine arts standards (2022), the 2019 world language standards and AP/CTE guidance.
The board moved and approved both guides by roll‑call votes. The minutes show the world language guide passed with a unanimous roll call and the art guide likewise passed by recorded roll call.
Board members thanked committee members and teachers for the time spent reviewing standards and crafting suggested course outlines. Both guides were presented as contingent on staffing availability and on any future state standards updates; Volness said the world language guide may be revisited next year after state revisions are released.
