Franklin County allocates 2018 youth development funds and awards Project SEEK contract to Catholic Charities

The Franklin County Legislature on June 7 accepted a $132,446 Summer Youth Employment allocation for June 1–Sept. 30, 2018 and authorized contracting administration of the program, called "Project SEEK," to Catholic Charities of Franklin County. The Commissioner of Social Services will retain $106,446 for the wages and fringe benefits of participating youths and contract $26,000 to Catholic Charities to administer the program; the 2018 budget was amended to reflect the appropriations and revenue.
At the June 21 meeting the board authorized allocations of Youth Development money for a series of 2018 projects. After a motion to amend, the approved total was $47,316. Recipients named in the resolution include Franklin County Youth Bureau ($8,066), Saranac Lake Youth Center ($10,000), Bangor Community Center ($3,000), Village of Malone Recreation Program ($2,250), and multiple town and nonprofit summer programs and activities. The Chairman was authorized to execute necessary applications and contracts; the funds are 100% reimbursable by the New York State Division for Youth and project participants.
