Franklin County Legislature's no-confidence resolution for North Country Community College president fails

The Franklin County Legislature on June 7 considered a resolution declaring it had "no confidence" in the president of North Country Community College and requesting the college's Board of Trustees not to extend the president’s contract. The measure was offered by Legislator Maroun and seconded by Legislator Janisewski.
Supporters said the college had been slow and insufficient in responding to repeated requests to develop curriculum tied to the county’s current economic and employment needs, including vocational, trade and service programs meant to benefit Franklin County residents. The resolution also said co-sponsors Franklin and Essex counties had not been adequately apprised of fiscal and institutional matters.
A roll-call vote recorded Maroun, Janisewski and Chairman Donald Dabiew as voting in favor; Legislators Lauzon and Dumas voted no, and Legislator Ellis abstained. Clerk Gloria J. Valone reported 3 ayes, 2 nays and 1 abstention, so the measure did not attain the votes needed for adoption and therefore failed.
The resolution itself asked the Board of Trustees "NOT extend the President's contract" but, because it was not adopted, no formal county action on the president's contract followed from that vote. The Legislature did not take further action on the matter during the June 7 session.
