Hopewell opens public comment on $263,007.96 CDBG allocation and application period

"This year, we have been notified that our allocation is $263,007.96," the presenter said, and described eligible uses including housing, infrastructure, public facilities and certain public amenities that primarily benefit low- and moderate-income persons. Staff opened a 30-day public-comment period beginning the next day and said the CDBG committee will review applications and return to council with a proposed annual action plan and budget for approval.
Council members asked whether local housing authorities qualify for CDBG funding; staff said housing authorities receive separate HUD funding and that eligibility for CDBG would need to be confirmed. Staff also said they will post consolidated-plan materials and application information on the city's website and are available to answer questions.
No funding decisions were made at the hearing; the item was informational and initiated the public comment period required before final allocation decisions.
