Commissioners give conditional approval for rodeo on county property pending contract and insurance review

The Meriwether County Board of Commissioners on May 11 granted conditional permission for the Cattlemen's Association to hold a rodeo on county property June 5–6, provided the association and stock contractor supply a contract acceptable to County Attorney Nathan Lee and carry sufficient liability insurance that lists the county as an additional insured.
Lanny Rampley of the Cattlemen's Association said the stock contractor would provide insurance and that the association would clear the site, handle parking and provide portable toilets. County Attorney Nathan Lee said his primary concern was liability protection for the County and requested to review the insurance policy limits and contract language.
Commissioner Gene King moved to approve use of county property contingent on legal review and proof of adequate insurance; Chairman Emmett Collins seconded. Commissioners Collins, Snelson, King and Worsley voted in favor; Commissioner Threadgill opposed, saying he lacked sufficient information.
The Board instructed organizers to deliver the contractor's contract and insurance binder promptly so County Attorney Lee can confirm coverage limits and ensure the County is protected as an additional insured. The County also requested that the contract include cleanup responsibilities and traffic-control plans to avoid placing cleanup burdens on Public Works staff.
