Board continues public hearing on Hoss Bowden (Pony Farm) Road closure to June 8

Meriwether County commissioners continued to a June 8 meeting a public hearing on GDOT's request to close Hoss Bowden Road (also called Pony Farm Road), after neighboring property owners raised concerns about losing access.
Planning and Zoning Director Cassandra Jones said the closure request originated with GDOT and that adjoining property owners were notified. Attorney Robert Lee Todd, representing landowner Curtis Whitaker, told the board Whitaker opposed a full closure unless he could retain some access or receive title to the road so he could maintain it. Whitaker’s representative said the road provides access to tenant houses and interior portions of his property.
Public Works Director Brian Griffith told commissioners he believed the route had not been maintained in roughly 20 years and appeared to have functioned largely as power-line access. Multiple owners said they use the roadway for deliveries and to reach back portions of their properties.
Commissioner Gene King suggested barricading or removing the bridge while leaving other portions of the right-of-way in place to preserve access; commissioners agreed to continue the hearing to give property owners time to negotiate easements or other arrangements before the board considers abandoning the road.
The Board formally continued the hearing to the June 8 regular meeting at 6 p.m., giving affected parties roughly a month to reach an agreed solution.
