The East Rutherford Board of Education recognized its teachers of the year and heard a public comment report from the East Rutherford PTA.
The interim superintendent introduced and thanked the district’s teachers of the year, asking Nicole Hagel (Mackenzie), Marilyn Petritis (Faust) and Diane Schweickart (Lincoln) to stand for recognition. The superintendent praised the honorees for their dedication and impact on students and invited brief remarks and a photo opportunity following the ceremony.
Kevin Lyon, representing the East Rutherford PTA, gave a public comment update to the board. He said PTA membership stood at 230 as of May and summarized recent events including a well-attended “tricky tray,” field-day T-shirt contests and a teacher appreciation lunch on Cinco de Mayo. Lyon thanked volunteers, local businesses (named in his remarks: Habit Burger, Cake and Cone, Master Pizza, ShopRite) and school staff for their support and described upcoming activities including graduation lawn signs, music competitions and distribution of field-day shirts.
Board members thanked the PTA and praised the organization’s work. No votes were taken on these items; the recognition and PTA update were part of the public comment and presentation portions of the meeting.
