Donna Tracy, co‑executive director of ARC of Tri‑Cities, said Special Olympics in the Tri‑Cities is volunteer‑run and relies on local fundraising to cover rental fees, uniforms and transportation. Tracy thanked county leaders for prior support and noted the program’s accessibility work: the ARC provides staffing to help athletes complete online registrations and overcome digital‑access barriers.
Athletes and coaches described participation benefits and upcoming travel to the state spring games. Commissioners and staff praised volunteers and agreed to a brief recess for photos to help publicize the athletes’ achievements; the board discussed sharing images on the county’s Facebook page.
Tracy said the ARC had initially designated $50,000 in seed funding and continues to supplement local shortfalls. She asked commissioners to consider local office space and community partners for long‑term program stability.
