Shawn Fredrickson, presenting on behalf of Parks, said the stage lift has been broken for approximately 15 years and recommended installing a ramp in its place.
Committee members also discussed reopening and improving accessibility of restrooms at the baseball fields. The county''s ADA transition plan prioritizes restroom upgrades in high-traffic areas; members noted seasonal restroom closures typically occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day and that bathrooms at Longfellow Park previously froze after reopening. Fredrickson said he will contact Hoffman about accessible portable-restroom options for events.
Members noted a stormwater grant has been obtained for Father Sheehan Park, though restroom upgrades are not currently included in the grant; the committee discussed potentially leveraging additional state funding to add restroom improvements. Fredrickson reported there are currently no storm drains off Edwards Street, which causes runoff to flow into Father Sheehan Park, a condition the grant work aims to address through broader stormwater improvements.
To help prioritize funding and repairs, the committee proposed a walk audit at Father Sheehan Park; Chair Cassie Weightman said she will coordinate scheduling information by email. Committee members offered to provide accessibility feedback during project planning and events.
No formal motions or votes occurred on park projects during the meeting.
