City Administrator Bryce Shearen told the council that Gutierrez resigned effective March 25, 2026, leaving less than two years remaining in the term and triggering the council’s authority to appoint a replacement. He said the city solicited applications and received eleven submissions.
Mayor Tom Fischer led the council through a discussion of each applicant’s qualifications, experience and fit for the role. The applicants listed by the council were Jonathan Chalmers; Taelor Johnson; Kevin Keenan; Shawn Koch; Lee Ann Lehto; Teresa Miller; Mike Mui; Michael Petruconis; Tom Ray; Nick Schwalbach; and Katelyn Sindt.
After deliberation the council reached consensus to invite two candidates—Mike Mui and Nick Schwalbach—for final interviews on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The workshop minutes state the names in alphabetical order and do not record a formal motion, mover or second.
No appointment was made at the May 6 workshop. The council adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m.; the agenda and minutes indicate the next procedural step is the scheduled interviews on May 20, after which any appointment would be formally recorded if made.
