Hobbs City honors powerlifting champions, EMS week and employee milestones

Mayor Jonathan Senna read a proclamation recognizing Hobbs High School powerlifting champions Jesus Ortiz and Liliana Cortez for state championships and record lifts, declaring May 18, 2026, as Jesus Ortiz and Liliana Cortez Day in Hobbs and inviting family, coaches and the team to the front for recognition and photos.
The commission also proclaimed 2026 Emergency Medical Services Week, praising EMS providers and first responders for round‑the‑clock life‑saving services. Hobbs Fire Chief Mark Deporto accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Hobbs Fire Department and thanked the mayor and commissioners.
City staff recognized five employees who reached service milestones in May 2026: Joshua Montoya (5 years), Brian Vasquez (5 years), Sean Smith (10 years), Terry Lewis (10 years) and Kenneth Brotherton (20 years). The mayor invited those present forward for photos and public thanks.
