Hobbs honors long-serving city employees; United Way thanks city for support

The Hobbs City Commission paused its regular agenda to honor city employees and hear a public comment from the United Way of Lee County.
City Manager Manny Gomez presented service recognitions, saying the city has tallied a total of 5,300 years of service recognized since 2018 and that in 2025 the city recorded 555 years across employees. Gomez introduced three honorees for January 2026: Detective James Teague of the Hobbs Police Department (five years), Deb Corral, assistant finance director (15 years), and Paul Marquez, equipment operator in streets/highways (25 years). Gomez described Marquez’s work on pavement preservation and previous service with the New Mexico National Guard.
During public comment, Becca Titus, CEO and president of United Way of Lee County, thanked city employees and partners for employee giving and support. "For the record, my name is Becca Titus, and I serve as the CEO and president of United Way of Lee County," she told the commission, noting that city employees’ giving and lodging-tax support helped the nonprofit and that the recent MLK Day of Service drew a large volunteer turnout.
The commission thanked honorees and volunteers and invited commissioners to take a photo with the award recipients. No formal action was required for the recognitions or the public comment.
