Clovis commission recognizes employees, holiday yard winners and proclaims MLK Jr. Day; chamber-led treasure hunt highlighted

The Clovis City Commission used its presentation period to recognize city employees and community volunteers, award neighborhood holiday-yard prizes, and present a proclamation for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Mercedes Robinson was recognized as the city's distinguished supervisor of the quarter for Sept.–Nov. 2025; a presenter praised her work as assistant finance director on the city's enterprise financial system, manuals and payroll. Public Works Director Clint Bunch introduced John Bright as the distinguished line employee of the quarter for his service at the wastewater treatment plant and described Bright's certifications and responsibilities.

Commissioners announced winners of the 2025 holiday yard-of-the-month awards by district and congratulated homeowners for elaborate displays. The Clovis Action Team, led by Chamber President Sherry Wilson, summarized a "landmarks treasure hunt" event that drew 10 participants and highlighted local sites; winners Christina and Grace Tatum spoke briefly about the experience.

Mayor Mike Morris read and presented a proclamation naming Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, as Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Clovis. Organizers outlined a scholarship breakfast scheduled for Jan. 17, a library art display, speech winners from local schools, and other activities under the theme "nonviolence seeks to defeat injustice and evil, not people." Vanessa Betts (children's author) and Pastor Ron Bez were announced as speakers for the breakfast and rally respectively.

The commission encouraged public attendance at upcoming committee and board meetings and thanked volunteers and sponsors for the community events. No formal votes were required for the presentations and proclamation.
