Luna County Historical Society reports traffic uptick, plans July fundraiser and small expansion

Mary Galbraith, representing the Luna County Historical Society, told the Luna County Board of County Commissioners during public comment that the museum recorded 314 website interactions in April, a 23.4% increase that she attributed to outreach and a newly printed trifold.

"We had 314 interactions in the month of April," Galbraith said, and noted the museum distributes a trifold to visitor centers, hotels and other venues to promote an online events calendar that lists free nonprofit events.

Galbraith outlined plans for a July 25 fundraising dinner at the Memories Learning Center: a $125 ticket per couple option, tables of eight for $500 and tables of 10 for $625. She said proceeds will support the museum’s need for storage and display space after accepting a large donated sign — "the White House Cafe sign, which is 16 feet by 8 and a half feet" — and described a preliminary expansion measuring roughly 17 by 29 feet on the side of the museum.

The update included practical details: 3,000 trifold brochures were printed in March and Galbraith said she reordered more after supplies ran low. She also reminded residents that the museum calendar accepts listings for nonprofit and free events but not commercial sales.

The meeting record shows no formal board action tied to the museum report; Galbraith closed by inviting commissioners and residents to the annual meeting on July 16 and to the fundraiser on July 25.

The board acknowledged the report and moved on to other public comments.
