Sandoval County Treasurer Taylor announced the county has secured a $10,000 scholarship from UMB Bank to support the Junior County Treasurer (JCT) program beginning this August. Taylor said the bank's community giving priorities (arts, agriculture, financial education and self-sufficiency) align with the JCT program and that UMB leadership, including Melanie Velasquez, supported the gift.
The treasurer said legal counsel reviewed the donation to ensure compliance with anti-donation rules and confirmed the county will not retain the funds; scholarships will be paid to students after program completion. Taylor said the county plans to award two $5,000 scholarships to participants and that additional stipend or credit options had been considered in past years but were limited by program-hour requirements.
Taylor thanked UMB Bank for the donation and said she will share further implementation details as the program starts in August.
