Clovis commission approves bid submission to host Municipal League conference and okays $20,000 fireworks budget increase

On a separate new-business item the commission approved a $20,000 budget augmentation for the Smoke on the Water fireworks display, citing the semiquincentennial (250th U.S. birthday) activities as justification for a larger show. Staff said the increase would allow a more memorable program, though the final post-change total in the transcript was unclear.
Both actions were approved by unanimous voice vote. Mayor Mike Morris and commissioners urged staff to continue planning and to return with details if the city is selected to host the conference and as event budgets are finalized.
