Residents urge county to halt Los Lunas Boulevard alignments that would cut through rural neighborhoods

Maria Leiva Delgado said she and her husband learned via a neighbor’s Facebook post that one proposed boulevard alignment would run through properties they own on Carrillo Road. She asked, ‘What is the public purpose to extend this road through a rural residential neighborhood of homes?’ and requested engineering, traffic, noise and environmental reports and drawings that clearly identify impacts to their lots.
Maria Klee, speaking for neighbors on Otero Road, Arona Road and several surrounding roads, said the three alignments selected ‘will effectively destroy our community, tearing it in half with a major boulevard.’ She said many property owners learned of the proposals only after residents circulated information, and she submitted an initial list of concerned owners and asked that the county hold town‑hall meetings in the affected area.
Jessica Montano, who said two proposed alignments run ‘right through my front door,’ cited USDA statistics presented during her remarks about farmland loss and asked the county to conduct public traffic and impact studies that account for small‑farm values and consider alternatives such as the North and South Loops.
County staff and the manager told residents they will collect contact names for future town halls and that the county can provide more detail as studies are made available. No formal action on a specific alignment was taken at the meeting; commissioners did not vote on the road at this session.
