The Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend annexation of a 3.593‑acre property at 604 Paseo Del Canyon East into the Town of Taos and to designate the parcel RA (residential‑agriculture) if the Town Council approves the ordinance.
Staff said the annexation application (submitted by Irma Montano, trustee for the New Mexico Sunset Revocable Living Trust) is not tied to any immediate development but noted the property contains two residential structures and that the owner is responsible for utility extension costs. Staff recommended conditional approval by the commission and said the annexation must proceed to a Town Council hearing to complete the process.
Owner Irma Montano told the commission she requested annexation because a previous well dried and a replacement well produced poor water quality, and she would like to connect to municipal water. She noted that the town holds an easement to access the water tank and water line near her property. The commission asked no substantive follow‑up questions and moved to recommend annexation to Town Council.
The commission’s recommendation passed unanimously. Staff said the ordinance will be drafted for Town Council and estimated the council hearing would likely occur in April or May after legal review and required notices.
