Taos planning commission approves 2026 meeting schedule as council considers merger with historic preservation panel

The Town of Taos Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 4 voted unanimously to approve its 2026 meeting schedule, while staff said the calendar may be amended if the Town Council approves combining the Planning and Zoning Commission with the Historic Preservation Commission.
Deputy Planning Director Diana Gonzalez told commissioners the schedule follows the long-standing first-Wednesday pattern and that staff will present a revised calendar if the council approves the merger. Commissioner Gooch moved to approve the schedule with the condition that reasonable requests to alter meeting times be considered; Commissioner De Herrera seconded and the motion passed by roll call.
Commissioners agreed to keep meeting start times at 6 p.m. for now and to return the calendar for amendment if the council opts to combine the two bodies. The panel also voted to table election of officers until a full commission is seated due to the pending merger.
