The Taos Town Council on May 20 voted to extend for 90 days the abatement timeline for property at 514 Dolan Street, a date‑certain extension to Aug. 25, 2026. Code enforcement and staff reported significant progress driven by volunteers and community members who organized recurring cleanup days to remove trash, restore access and prepare the house for water and electrical reconnection.
Code Enforcement described a pattern dating to an August 2025 complaint and multiple red tags issued in September 2025. Officer Antonio Fernandez and colleague Chris Cordova said inspections with the property owner's permission have documented steady, community‑led improvements. "The improvements have been done are pretty incredible…we feel that the work can be finished within 90 days," staff said.
Several volunteers spoke during the public hearing, enumerating work done: removal of most scrap and trash, repair of a dilapidated shed, organizing interior space for future water/electrical work, and creation of an 18‑foot fire lane through the property. A volunteer asked the town to repeal or extend resolution 25‑78 to reflect the cleanup efforts; staff recommended a 90‑day extension and continued monitoring. Council voted unanimously to extend the abatement to the August council meeting and asked staff for updates ahead of that date.
Staff reminded the owner and volunteers that any future new fence or concrete wall exceeding four feet requires permits and inspections. The council thanked community volunteers and emphasized continued support for the completion of repairs.
