Township adopts $14.6 million bond for Pike Brook wastewater upgrades, approves 2024 sewer rates and salary ordinance

Montgomery Township Committee voted unanimously on June 6 to adopt a $14,600,000 bond ordinance to fund upgrades and expansion of the Pike Brook wastewater treatment plant and to adopt related fiscal measures including 2024 sewer capacity charges and the township'wide salary and wage ordinance.

The public hearing on the bond ordinance (24-1-734) opened with the mayor reading the ordinance'text authorizing the appropriation and the issuance of bonds and notes. After brief procedural comments, the committee moved to adopt the ordinance by roll call; the motion carried on a unanimous vote.

Committee members also approved ordinance 24-1-733 setting 2024 sewer capacity charges and service rates and adopted ordinance 24-1-732 (the comprehensive salary and wage ordinance, amended). Reporter Barbara Preston asked for clarification about job titles listed in the salary ordinance; staff explained the document lists potential positions historically used so future changes need not trigger separate ordinance amendments.

The committee also approved several consent agenda items tied to capital and resiliency work, including acceptance of grants and appointment resolutions. Mayor (presiding) emphasized resiliency projects tied to the consent agenda, noting a $1.5 million federal grant recommended by Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman to restore floodplain capacity.
