Addison SD 4 honors student councils across elementary schools; announces 'Addison Great Shake' winner

The Addison School District 4 Board of Education meeting on May 20 included a series of student-council presentations from elementary schools across the district and a public recognition for student leadership. Administrators and student officers described service projects, fundraising, spirit days and inclusive activities from the school year.

An administrator announced Andrea Garcia as the fourth-annual Addison Great Shake winner, noting the contest drew more than 1,200 students at times at that school and praising her win. The board and audience applauded.

Wesley Elementary student council secretary Simi summarized the year’s activities — spirit days, fundraising, a classroom door-decorating contest, a food drive (more than a dozen boxes donated), and gratitude to sponsors and staff. Lake Park principal Christina Villalobos introduced student council president Noah Gutierrez, who highlighted officers training, spirit days and veterans’ thank-you notes.

Student leaders from Army Trail, Indian Trail, Stone, Lincoln, Fullerton, Ardmore and other schools described color runs, food drives, ornament-kit sales, teacher appreciation events and end-of-year community events. Several presenters noted inclusion efforts, special-needs accommodations (for example, a student who uses a communication device participated in morning announcements), and service projects supporting local charities.

Superintendent speaker 11 thanked student councils and sponsors and praised student leadership as strengthening the district’s schools.

What happens next: The district continues to recognize student leadership as part of end-of-year events; principals and student sponsors will carry many of the described activities into the next school year.
