Committee approves Homework Club advisor stipend, accepts $1,500 Kiwanis donation and grants graduation presentation requests

The East Bridgewater School Committee voted April 28 to approve a memorandum of agreement with the East Bridgewater Education Association to add a Homework Club advisor stipend at the Gordon W. Mitchell School following a PTO-funded pilot program.
District staff said the pilot, run by Mr. Paquette and funded by the PTO, ran 2–3 days per week for about an hour and served roughly 10–15 students per session. The position will be a stipend-based assignment that staff may post annually; the program is no-fee to families. Committee members asked whether the district had measured student achievement impacts from the pilot; staff said they could ask for data but did not present formal academic outcomes at the meeting.
The committee also accepted a $1,500 donation from the Kiwanis Club of East Bridgewater to the East Bridgewater Junior-Senior High School gifts and donations account and thanked the club; the Kiwanis had offered $1,500 after an initial request for $1,000. A committee member noted the Kiwanis intends to place identifying stickers in books the donation will purchase.
Separately, the committee approved requests allowing graduating seniors to have family members present diplomas and approved a request for longtime EBPS custodian Edward Sweeney to present a diploma at the Class of 2026 ceremony. All these items were moved, seconded and approved by voice votes.
Staff will finalize the memorandum language for the collective bargaining records and proceed with posting or otherwise making the stipend opportunity available under the agreed terms.
