Warrington delays hiring of township arborist, directs ordinance review first

The Warrington Board of Supervisors on June 12 tabled consideration of appointing a township arborist after discussion about receiving only one proposal in response to an RFP and concerns about whether the township should revise its tree ordinance first.
Township manager Angela (S4) told the board that only Keystone Tree Experts responded to the RFP and that the submitted proposal named Herb Hickman as the individual contact. Angela said the firm had worked with many municipalities and that staff had checked references. Several supervisors said they were comfortable using an arborist for ordinance drafting but questioned whether appointing a single firm for one year was necessary when the township previously contracted arborists on a project-by-project basis.
Committee members proposed forming a small working group — manager, EAC, Alan and a supervisor — to draft ordinance revisions and to define the specific arborist roles the township would need going forward. Solicitor/Planner (S2) advised that an appointment was not mandatory and that the board could revisit hiring after the ordinance work.
A motion to table further consideration of the arborist appointment passed; board members asked staff and the EAC to assemble recommended ordinance changes and a list of arborists matched to distinct tasks for future selection.
