The Town of Taos on March 10 approved professional services for roof renovation at the Taos Youth & Family Center and declared certain ice‑rink components surplus following fire damage.
Chief procurement officer explained new claims processing rules require direct town payment for architectural and structural professional services, with reimbursement to follow from the New Mexico Self‑Insurers Fund. The contract proposed Arcus Architects and an additional structural engineering engagement (broken into two quotes totaling roughly $70,000) to provide architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural engineering services necessary for permitting and repairs after the fire.
The council asked whether a project manual would be needed and confirmed site visits are included until project closeout. Council voted to approve the proposal in the amount of $81,476.08 (including New Mexico gross receipts tax).
Staff also requested the council declare certain rink components (batter boards, glass, team boxes) and one decommissioned town truck as surplus for disposition through a public auction (GovDeals/New Mexico surplus). The procurement officer said the batter boards occupy multiple containers and staff seeks to avoid long storage; the council approved the surplus declaration and directed staff to publicly notice the auction.
