Halifax County Electoral Board names 2026 leadership, schedules election training and L&A testing

The Halifax County Electoral Board reorganized its leadership on Feb. 19, 2026, naming Kayla Wade chair, Harry Jones vice chair and Ellen Kent secretary for the year, and moved to finalize preparations for an upcoming Special Election.
Secretary Ellen Kent made the motion to install the 2026 officers; the motion passed with no opposition. Earlier in the meeting the board approved the meeting agenda and accepted the minutes from its previous session after Harry Jones moved to accept them and Kayla Wade seconded.
The board discussed training requirements for election staff. The Registrar stated that training will be required only for precinct chiefs and assistant chiefs, with sessions to be held on the last two Saturdays before the election if needed. Board members reviewed and approved a roster of election officers for the Special Election with allowance for future changes.
Members also scheduled logic-and-accuracy testing for the early voting machine on Feb. 24, 2026. The board completed business and adjourned at 11:30 a.m. after Vice Chairman Harry Jones moved to adjourn and Secretary Ellen Kent seconded.
The reorganization sets the board's leadership for 2026 and confirms operational steps — training, staffing and equipment testing — intended to prepare for the Special Election.
