Council moves to rezone Orchard Park parcel and grants two Board of Adjustment exceptions

Clerk Brooke Thibodeaux read the Planning Commission recommendation and the resolution to disagree. The motion, made by Carla JeanBatiste and seconded by Tangie Narcisse, carried with all present council members voting yes; two members were excused.
Separately, the council met as the Board of Adjustment and approved two exceptions required before permitting. The council granted Scott Lanclos permission to build a single‑family dwelling on property zoned I‑1 (Light Industrial) at 1117 Captain Cade Road after a motion by Carla JeanBatiste and seconded by Ben Clay. The council also approved a motion by David Poirier, seconded by Ben Clay, to permit Lawrence Rumble (listed with Donna Belinda Bienvenu) to move a single‑family mobile home onto Lot C‑2 of Doyle Melancon Road (Parcel ID: 09202D5040), a parcel zoned C‑2 (General Commercial). Both Board of Adjustment actions passed unanimously.
The council’s decision initiates the local ordinance process for rezoning; applicants must still obtain the required permits from parish permitting staff in accordance with the St. Martin Parish Zoning Ordinance before construction or placement of any dwelling.
