The Carter County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Dec. 18 to approve and adopt the Updated 2023 Carter County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was prepared for the City of Elizabethton, the City of Watauga and Carter County.
The motion to adopt the plan was made by Nick Holder and seconded by Aaron Frazier; the record shows 22 yes votes and no dissent. The plan adoption was recorded on pages 713–715 of the meeting documentation.
Why it matters: adopting a multi-jurisdictional mitigation plan helps the county and cities coordinate on hazard mitigation priorities and is often a prerequisite for eligibility for certain federal mitigation grants and programs.
The board recorded the vote and moved on to subsequent committee business.
