Huntington council approves business license, uniform purchase and sign relocation; candidates introduced

Huntington — At its April 14 meeting the Huntington City Council approved a set of routine operational items, including business licenses, a small uniform purchase for the fire department and the relocation of a refurbished city information sign.

Council approved a business license for Shorty’s Sugar Shack LLC after Jerrin Huntington spoke on behalf of the applicant. Zoning Administrator Jessica Lee informed the council that Johnson’s Diesel Service LLC amended its existing business license to include a tow-yard function. Both items were approved as part of council motions recorded in the minutes.

Council also approved a request from the fire department to use its retention fund to purchase a polo shirt, green pants and a jacket at a total cost of $2,991.41. The council approved relocation of a newly purchased Huntington City information sign — produced by the 2nd Ward Young Men’s group led by Matt Diamond — to the Main Street city restroom.

The council heard brief introductions from David Sebring, who is running for Emery County Commissioner, and Karen Richards, who is running for Emery County Recorder. During public comment, resident Mike Greenan reported observing an illegal dumping incident; Mayor Norton asked him to provide details so the city can follow up with county law enforcement.

Maintenance reported routine work including serviced equipment, sprinkler maintenance, branch pickup scheduling and repair of a water break at the rodeo grounds. The council adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
