The Newberry Township Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Axon Enterprise on Jan. 5 to replace the department’s taser equipment and provide associated training and instructor certification. The total contract amount is $68,271.40 spread over a 60‑month term, the chair said.
Lieutenant Braxton Diddy described the package as a full replacement including five new tasers, associated equipment and officer/instructor training. He told the board the current devices are at end‑of‑life and replacement cartridges are no longer available, and said tasers are a "less‑lethal tool" that help keep both officers and the public safer by avoiding physical force in many encounters.
The chair asked for a motion to approve the contract; the motion passed by voice vote.
