Avon council approves AVFD perks, contracts, proclamations and conservation resolution

Contracts and procurement: The Council awarded a contract to Fetterville Pole Buildings for a new pole building at the Public Works facility (amount not to exceed $175,000) and approved a three‑year extension with 4M Building Solutions dba Horizon Services LLC for janitorial services totaling up to $473,496.36 (Year 1 $153,186.84; Year 2 $157,782.48; Year 3 $162,527.04). Both actions were approved by unanimous vote. Council waived a new bid for janitorial services citing satisfactory vendor performance.
Proclamations and policy: Chairman Polhamus read and the Council adopted a proclamation declaring June 2026 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month; Council also authorized display of the Pride flag at the Avon Free Public Library for June. Council approved recommended amendments to the Support for Community Events Grant Program to clarify applicant eligibility, award tiers, and application requirements.
Conservation and other resolutions: The Council approved a resolution supporting inclusion of Avon in the Highlands Conservation Region (pending U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service final approval) to allow eligibility for federal conservation assistance without obligating the town to specific actions.
