Urban Forester Derek Kahl reported to the Menomonie Urban Forestry Board on March 18 that the city has removed up to 240 boulevard trees this year and that about eight boulevard trees remain to be removed on Elm West.
Kahl said the 240-figure excludes trees removed at Lakeside and Butches and that, in total, approximately 1,000 trees have been taken down to date. He stated that about 85% of the removed trees were ash and the remainder were other species, and that there are no more ash trees on the boulevard slated for removal.
The board did not take formal legislative action on the reported counts during the meeting; the report was provided for informational and planning purposes. Board members scheduled a Field Day site visit at Phelan Park on March 27 to finalize planting plans and will consider planting strategy and outreach at their April 15 meeting.
