Warren VFD reports December call volumes, flags maintenance and considers stipends; township liaison introduced

Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department officers reviewed December operational statistics, ongoing vehicle maintenance and administrative items at their Jan. 7 officers’ meeting.
Reporting by Aram Kachidurian showed 61 total calls in December: 2 fires, 21 hazardous calls, 28 false alarms and 11 delayed calls. Unit activity included Engine 2 with 15 calls (one crew), Engine 3 with 12 calls (two crew), Tanker 61‑3 with 5 calls (three crew), Ladder 61 with 39 calls (28 crew) and Rescue 61 with 11 calls (two crew). Tower 61‑2 and Tanker 61‑4 reported no calls.
Charlie Boschen, vehicle maintenance lead, said preventive maintenance is underway for the Tower and Engine 2 and that he will request a PM list from the DPW; he will follow up on unresolved issues with Engine 3 and the Ladder. Boschen also noted concerns with the Fire & Safety vendor's performance.
Chief Russo thanked members who helped at recent incidents, including the Stiles fire, and said he is pursuing a stipend for members taking on extra duties and wants to appoint a safety officer. He also noted that privately owned recording devices used in nonpublic areas can be subject to OPRA and introduced Dan McCarey as the township committee liaison, saying McCarey plans to meet department members and attend company meetings.
Next steps: Boschen will request the preventative maintenance list from DPW and follow up on the Ladder and Engine 3 issues; the chief will continue discussions about stipends and appointment of a safety officer, and the township liaison will begin outreach to the companies.
