Uniontown council approves final plat, accepts one annexation and authorizes senior-center move; one annexation fails

The Uniontown City Council on May 11 approved several land-use and facility items, accepted one annexation request and rejected another, and authorized a temporary relocation of senior-center programming.
Staff recommended and the council approved Resolution 18-75, granting final-plat approval to Sunrise Meadows, a 28-lot subdivision. City staff (Chris Passanetti) told the council that the subdivision has satisfied the conditions from the preliminary plat (ordinance 27-88) and that streets, sidewalks, utilities and required certificates have been posted and accepted. Council approved the resolution on a voice vote.
The council considered two separate annexation petitions. Resolution 18-76 (Kazer/Mezic annexation), which staff described as a request originally filed March 19, 2026 and recommended for modification to include 11 parcels (about 20 acres; 2026 assessor valuation roughly $5,000,000), failed on a council voice vote. Committee discussion noted limited staff resources and concerns about timing and boundary regularity.
By contrast, Resolution 18-77 (Tarragon annexation), filed March 24, 2026, was approved after staff recommended modifying the requested area to six parcels (about 18 acres; valuation roughly $4,000,000). The Tarragon applicant offered to reimburse city review costs and emphasized connecting to existing stubbed utilities. The motion passed with five ayes and one no recorded in the meeting.
Resolution 18-78 authorizes a second lease amendment with VFW Post 1949 to provide temporary exclusive access to the VFW Hall (June 1–Sept. 30) for senior-center programming during renovations. Parks Director Alina Hibbs said the city will compensate the VFW a total of $6,800 and absorb that into the project budget; council approved the lease amendment.
Procedural items: the council approved minutes from the April 27 meeting, approved the consent agenda and moved the executive-session item to follow adjournment for a required recess. The council recessed into an executive session to discuss Climate Commitment Act auction bidding strategy and adjourned at 8:03 p.m.
What’s next: For each annexation the council set the record for staff review and potential boundary-review-board action; applicants and staff will proceed with documentation and boundary-review notifications. No new regulatory actions were taken at this meeting beyond the approvals listed above.
