Town staff update: Walnut Knoll senior housing timeline, SeeClickFix rollout and community center schedule

During routine updates at the Dec. 3 Select Board meeting, staff reported multiple community-service and capital-project items: a veterans’ program offering free winter coats to veterans and families, a new town-hall flag drop box for proper flag disposal, and a soft rollout of SeeClickFix — a phone app residents can use to report DPW issues that creates a trackable log for town staff.
Staff provided details on Walnut Knoll, described in the meeting as a forthcoming all-affordable senior housing project of approximately 200 units. Developers plan an information session for residents at the Council on Aging (soon-to-be community center) on Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. Staff said the project schedule currently targets an opening of the first building in September 2025 and a second building in December 2025; during the meeting a staff member noted that phase 1 “adds up to 141 units.” The board was reminded that schedule changes are possible and that more details will be provided at the January session.
Community center work was also discussed: sewer work has been designed and will be put out to bid, and staff tentatively expect construction work that could allow a May 1 opening if seasonal conditions and procurement timing permit. DPW reported that sidewalk and roadway reconstruction projects are complete for the winter season; Centennial Street water-main work was delayed by ledge and is expected to finish in mid- to late-December, and site work for a DPW garage expansion is ongoing.
Staff asked residents to look for posted updates and to register on the town website for newsletters and project notices; the town’s communications team will publish additional detail about the Walnut Knoll session and the SeeClickFix rollout.
