Select Board approves firefighter memorial and names May 10 as Foxborough Cleanup Day

The Select Board voted April 15 to approve two community items: a firefighter memorial at 40 South Street and the town’s annual cleanup day.
Lieutenant Paul Dolan of the Foxborough Fire Department presented a historical summary of a 1900 townhouse fire that resulted in the deaths of four firefighters and requested permission to install a granite monument on the original site. Dolan said the memorial would feature a brass plaque and an engraved image of the townhouse; the stone itself is estimated at $9,820 and will be paid entirely by donations to Friends of Foxborough Fire, a registered 501(c)(3). Installation is planned with local contractor Tribute and Stone of Rentham and the proposed dedication date is June 4, 2025, the 125th anniversary of the fire.
Joe Garrity presented on Foxborough Cleanup Day and asked the board to set Saturday, May 10, 2025, 9 a.m.–noon, as the event date. Garrity described meeting logistics, volunteer sign-up (foxprocleanupdate.org), T-shirts and a post-cleanup pizza lunch and raffles. The board approved the date and asked staff to post the signup link to the town website.
Both items were approved by roll call.
