The Monticello Parks, Arts & Recreation Commission on March 26 recommended Par West Park as the preferred site for a proposed RC crawler course, voting unanimously to forward the recommendation.
Staff told commissioners that, after direction from the December 2025 meeting, staff evaluated potential locations and identified Par West Park and 4th Street Park as suitable. Staff recommended Par West Park because it presents fewer scheduling conflicts and more reliable restroom access; 4th Street Park was noted to have frequent baseball activity that could constrain parking availability.
Staff also reported materials such as rocks, dirt and wood are available to construct the course and that staff will seek input from a local crawler club to design a layout accommodating multiple skill levels. Commissioners discussed the absence of electrical infrastructure at the preferred site (with a possible future solar solution), minimal maintenance needs (primarily weed control), noise and compatibility with park uses, and an anticipated course footprint of approximately 30 feet by 70 feet. Commissioner Maria Onnen moved to recommend Par West Park; Commissioner Erin Stein seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
The minutes record jurisdictional and logistical considerations but do not specify construction timing, funding sources beyond staff confirmation of material availability, or a scheduled City Council review date for the recommendation.
