The Coralville Planning & Zoning Commission on Jan. 7 recommended approval of a PUD‑B site plan and the final plat for Lots 1 and 2 of the CFA Addition to allow construction of a Chick‑fil‑A on the former Cantebury Motel lot.
Dave Johnson, Community Development Director, said staff reviewed the site and building plans and found they meet applicable requirements. Commissioner Wenman asked whether the Chick‑fil‑A lot occupied the former motel parcel; Johnson confirmed it is the former Cantebury Motel lot.
Justin Lurk, Principal Development Lead for Chick‑fil‑A in the Midwest Region, told commissioners that the Casa Azul restaurant on the site will be demolished to complete the lot split and build the Chick‑fil‑A. Lurk described Chick‑fil‑A as a privately held, family‑owned company and noted that each location is individually owned.
With the public hearing closed, the Commission voted 6-0 to recommend approval of the PUD‑B site plan (motion by Commissioner Freidhof, second by Commissioner Holderness) and to recommend approval of the final plat for Lots 1 & 2 (motion by Commissioner Dokun, second by Commissioner Wenman).
