Pocahontas County engineer reports Sherman box culvert complete; crews moving to East/West road

Pocahontas County Engineer Tate Schmeling told the Board of Supervisors on Oct. 22 that the Sherman box culvert project on the northwest side of the county is complete and should be reopened to traffic by the end of the week.
Schmeling said crews will move to work on the East/West road with an estimated two-week timetable. He reported that two projects are slated to be let next spring and one in the fall, and that the Bargen project should be finished by the end of the week.
Supervisor Louis Stauter raised the condition of two intakes on each side of the County West-to-East road in Cedar 6 (on the county line) that were repaired, and Schmeling confirmed the matter was discussed.
The engineer also reported staff quotes for four pressure washers for county shops: $5,800 each, totaling about $23,000 — roughly $4,000 under the amount budgeted. Schmeling said the ad to fill the Motor Grader Patrol Operator — Laurens Area — position will run in the newspaper this week following an internal move.
