Board hears about sound, weather and parking issues at summer concert series

Members of the Winchester Park Board reviewed recent issues in the summer concert series, including a sound-systems problem at the Fourth of July event and recurring rain that has complicated setups and attendance.
An events committee member (speaker 4) said the sound problem at the Fourth of July concert "wasn't the band's fault" and that heavy vendor presence and weather contributed to a less-than-perfect experience. The events member noted several concerts remain on the schedule, including a Remedy Band appearance on Aug. 15 and a later date featuring Duke Tomato in September.
Chair (speaker 2) said the venue Fidelis will be unavailable for concert parking during an upcoming event because Fidelis is hosting a convention; the board discussed asking concertgoers not to park on Fidelis property and possibly stationing someone to monitor parking. "No parking will be over at Fidelis, because they are having that convention," the chair said.
The board also heard an update that a memorial plaque—featuring an image of "Marilyn" diving off the high board—should be completed soon and that members will discuss placement (outside visibility weighed against vandalism risk).
The board did not change the concert schedule at the July meeting but said it will continue to monitor sound, weather and parking and will make venue decisions as needed before upcoming shows.
