Winchester board readies Little League diamond, cites staffing reason for dirt infill

The Winchester Park Board said Little League representatives will attend the August meeting and that work on a new diamond is expected to start around Aug. 1, though the date may slide.
Chair (speaker 2) told members that Aaron Anderson indicated construction would begin the first week of August or possibly later. The board said it has favored dirt infill rather than a grass infield because the street department lacks the manpower to maintain a new grass diamond; the chair noted staff shortages following a surgery-related absence limited available labor.
The chair also urged board members to visit the site ahead of the August meeting, review Little League proposals and weigh options for concessions and other logistics. "They are gonna be here for the August meeting," the chair said, asking members to "go out there, try to look at the diamonds a little bit, see what you guys think." The board said representatives from Little League have ideas they want to present and the board will incorporate those at the next meeting.
The board did not adopt construction plans or approve funding at the July meeting; Little League attendance in August was scheduled so members can review detailed plans before any formal action.
