She said the district has a live date to enable Gemini in the high school on Monday, March 30; expansion to additional grades would be reported back to the board.
As part of curriculum changes presented for first read, the board heard about an Intro to AI semester elective proposed to be taught by AP computer science teacher Wendy Munier that aligns with state computer‑science standards and uses vetted platforms (Gemini, NotebookLM and CodeHS). The presenter also outlined electives in media and marketing, career writing and two specialized social‑studies offerings (consumerism in U.S. history and music as reflected in U.S. history). The presenter said electives run only if students sign up and that an 8‑period day would allow more options.
Board members raised concerns about student access to unmonitored AI (for example, via personal phones) and asked for assurances about cost and data protections. Suzanne and staff said the Gemini feature was included in their existing workspace package and that no additional subscription cost was required for the protected deployment. A board member asked that the curriculum committee review the electives before final approval; Suzanne agreed and noted the item was a first read.
Next steps: the curriculum committee will review the proposed electives and the board will be updated on any expansion of Gemini beyond the high school.
