The Anamosa City Council met May 18, 2026, at the Anamosa City Council Chambers and voted to enter a closed session to discuss litigation strategy under Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(c). Mayor Rod Smith called the meeting to order at 5:55 p.m.; city staff in attendance included City Administrator Jeremiah Hoyt, City Clerk Kaylee Palmer and City Attorney Patrick O'Connell.
Council Member Todd Weimer moved, and Rich Crump seconded, "to enter into Closed Session per Iowa State Code Section 21.5(1)(c) to discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation." The roll call recorded ayes from Tim Shada, Rich Crump, Todd Weimer, Dan Smith and Brian Hurt. The council entered closed session at 5:57 p.m.
The council returned to open session at 6:40 p.m. Following the closed session, Rich Crump moved, seconded by Todd Weimer, "directing the City Attorney to proceed as advised by the City Council in Closed Session." A roll call again recorded ayes from Weimer, Dan Smith, Brian Hurt, Crump and Shada, and the motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 6:41 p.m. The minutes record the motions, roll-call results, and times of entry to and exit from closed session; no substantive details of the litigation discussion were disclosed in open session, consistent with the statutory exception cited by the council.
