Road and Bridge: China Cap Road on schedule; crews finish hospital work and opt to repair malfunctioning chipper

Road and Bridge Supervisor Kim Spencer updated the Caribou County commissioners on July 10 that China Cap Road is on the schedule for completion at the end of the month and that crews have hauled 8,400 tons of silica sand to the hospital project and removed 1,056 yards of dirt. Spencer said he expects the hospital work to be finished this week, though an additional portion of the parking lot will be completed later.
Spencer told the board he is seeking quotes to rebuild the broom and repair the chipper header. He reported a repair quote of $49,000 for the chipper and said he will "hold off on buying any more trucks and get this fixed instead," explaining the machine "randomly turns off and on." Commissioners did not object to prioritizing repair of the chipper over new vehicle purchases.
On intergovernmental work, Spencer told Alan Skinner (present at the meeting) he would prefer that the City of Soda Springs pay city employees directly for work they perform rather than have the county pay and the city reimburse the county; Denise Horsley (county clerk) agreed that direct city payments would cost the city less by avoiding added PERSI and tax calculations for reimbursements.
City of Grace Mayor Jackie Barthlome and resident Jared Mattson publicly thanked Road and Bridge crews for assistance with chip sealing; Barthlome also reminded the board of a community barbecue at Grace City Park on July 14.
