Conservation commission advances 'Connecting Kennebunk' workshop to map priorities

The Town of Kennebunk Conservation Commission on Jan. 5 approved minutes from its Dec. 15 meeting and advanced planning for a community workshop called "Connecting Kennebunk," intended to produce an overall vision and initial priorities for improving town connectivity. The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m., and members agreed to hold the event in third-floor rooms rather than the auditorium.
Jennifer Shack, a commission member, will contact the Clerk’s Office to reserve the rooms and will check with Kennebunk Savings Bank about donating refreshments, since "The Blue" cannot provide them; the commission also noted a need for name tags. Economic Vitality Director Stephen Houdlette prepared maps that the commission reviewed, and members said they will use zoomed-in maps of the coastal area, downtown, West Kennebunk and the Kennebunk Plains to guide small-group discussions.
At the meeting, Alison Malmqvist of the Kennebunk Climate Action Committee was listed among guests; the commission said the Climate Action Committee will discuss public comments and greenhouse gas emissions as part of arguments for increasing connectivity at the event. Commissioners Jennifer Lyons and Sally Tabor will meet with Lee Jay Feldman to refine event materials and mapping.
Commission members reviewed the attendee list and discussed what participants should know before arriving; outreach work for the event will resume after the January workshop. The commission scheduled its next regular meeting for Jan. 21.
The workshop is expected to focus on mapping and community priorities; the commission did not adopt any formal motions or votes at the Jan. 5 meeting.
