Friends report strong 5K registrations; advisory committee approves bylaws posting and board-development plan

Joyce Wefel, president of the Friends of the Library, told the Library Advisory Committee on April 22 that 135 people had registered for the Friends’ 5K, with participants ranging in age from two to 92, and that Running Gear donated 150 medals while the Friends ordered 30 more to meet demand. Wefel said bidding for the silent auction was open and that items were on display in the meeting room and online.
Committee business included governance items. Schaefer reported that revised Library Advisory Committee Bylaws were approved by the Township Trustee meeting on April 13 and will be posted on the library website. The Rules of Conduct revision is ongoing; Schaefer said there were no updates from Township legal counsel yet.
Trustees discussed Board Development resources and agreed to create a schedule of short presentations from trustees on topics related to the board’s responsibilities; Chair Sue Camilleri called for a vote and the Board Development plan passed unanimously. Trustee Steve Chisnell proposed adding a board matrix — a tool that would record trustee skills across categories such as governance, fiscal oversight, public policy, technology, facilities, and strategic planning as well as demographic and representational statistics — to a future agenda; Trustee Jura Kaupas seconded and the committee approved adding the item to next month’s agenda.
The meeting closed after a public-comment item noting that Director Julie Schaefer will attend MLA training on Conversations Worth Having and will present Township Clerk Kim Markee with a certificate of appreciation for her years as the Township Liaison to the Library Advisory Committee. The committee adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
