Trustees heard several staff updates and public concerns at the April 11 Lindenhurst meeting.
Operations Director Kevin Klahs explained why black ice has been forming on a stretch of Grand Avenue and described steps the department has taken to address it. Police Chief Tom Jones updated the board on crime-prevention messaging and community policing, and Trustees Heath Rosten and Dawn Suchy praised recent officer interactions with children in the community.
Mayor Dominic Marturano reported that Lindenhurst received a Tree City USA Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing the Village’s urban-forest management efforts. Administrator Clay Johnson said the International City/County Management Association had published a story recognizing Lindenhurst for best practices; Johnson said he would share that story on the Village website and social media. Johnson also reported receipt of FEMA reimbursement for eligible COVID-19 expenditures.
During public comment a resident representing the Harvest Hill Homeowner’s Association said the Village Voice newsletter is a useful information source and praised the Village’s contract negotiations with Groot. The resident also said online requests for paperless billing had not been successful and asked police to enforce the ordinance regulating parking of boats and other unauthorized vehicles on homeowner property.
Board members did not record formal action on the resident’s requests during the meeting; staff and trustees noted the concerns and discussed next steps would occur outside the meeting record or at future agenda items.
