Red Lion council approves $198,018 street payment, crosswalk signs and staffing pay changes

Red Lion Borough Council on July 8 approved multiple payments and safety measures while taking steps to refine longer-term capital plans.
The council voted to approve a payment request from contractor JVI for $198,018 for 2024 street work, with a 10% retainage held. Council also approved purchasing and installing two crosswalk signs at North Main and Gay streets in accordance with PENNDOT specifications to address renewed pedestrian crossings near school drop-off areas. Both actions were taken as motions during the public-works discussion.
Council approved a retroactive pay increase for interim Recreation Director Becky Gibney from $21.55 to $23.50 per hour, effective May 30. Council also reapproved invoices to Navarro & Wright totaling $65,827.50 and approved façade and curbing work proposals from Lauer Construction priced at $1,495 and $5,200, respectively.
In a 6–1 vote, council authorized use of the former mayor’s office in the Municipal Authority building as EMA office space at $100 per month, with the Borough covering cameras and internet; Councilmember Brady Greer recorded the lone dissent. The meeting record notes the EMA office rental will be on a month-to-month basis.
Engineer Jeff Shue reported that street reclamation work is scheduled to begin July 15 with completion expected by month end; he was also authorized to work with the contractor on a proposed $1,000 grading/curb solution to address stormwater runoff on Pine/W. Walnut Streets.
The council approved the bills list at the meeting; the vote carried with Councilmembers Brady Greer and Dennis Klinedinst recorded in opposition.
